Social studies involves a variety of critical thinking skills. In the program of studies students are asked to

"… develop skills of critical thinking that include: distinguishing fact from opinion; considering the reliability and accuracy of information; determining diverse points of view, perspective and bias; and considering the ethics of decisions and actions."
