Students Learning Through Competencies
A competency is an interrelated set of attitudes, skills and knowledge that are drawn upon and applied to a particular context for successful learning and living. They are developed by every student, in every grade and across every subject/discipline area. Learning Guides for each competency have been developed to share several strategies and ideas related to supporting student development. Some of the strategies and ideas shared are ones you may have already used with your students. The shift is to become intentional about highlighting/discussing how these “tried and true” strategies support the development of one or more competencies. This resource supports an Alberta Education program or initiative and is focused on professional development for districts and schools.
