Developing A Positive School Climate

A school principal’s role is essential when building a positive school climate. A principal assesses the conditions and creates a plan to support growth. Creating a positive school climate is a school-wide collaborative effort to design and implement strategies, practices and interventions for promoting positive social and communication skills.

Building Supportive Learning Communities

This is a systems-based strategy that uses a wide network of supports such as learning coaches, multi-disciplinary teams, and collaboration with RCSD models. Layers of support are needed when analyzing and understanding behaviours. Students should also be looked at in holistic ways and from different perspectives.

Universal Designs for Learning: Strategies to Prevent Challenging Behaviours in the Classroom

To manage challenging behaviours, it is important to plan in advance. Intentionally thinking about possible problem behaviours before engaging in planning your instructional day will reduce the possibility of disruptive behaviour. Taking a proactive approach to managing your classroom will help prevent noncompliance.
